Understands context
What you're working on matters. Assistance should be relevant to the task, not disconnected from it.
More than windows and shortcuts. ELIX is rethinking the desktop around intelligence, AI-native tools, and an experience that learns how you work.
Most desktop interfaces still wait for exact instructions. They can open apps and move files, but understanding what you're trying to achieve is still left to you.
ELIX explores a different relationship: one where the operating experience can recognize context, make capable tools available to AI, and offer the right assistance at the right moment.
It is not about replacing everything you do. It is about making the everyday work between your ideas and your tools feel simpler.
What you're working on matters. Assistance should be relevant to the task, not disconnected from it.
AI should be able to work with applications made for it, not merely tell you which buttons to press.
Over time, familiar routines and preferences could make the desktop more helpful, without demanding constant prompts.
The visible side of ELIX is being developed as an integrated desktop shell. It brings everyday surfaces together so navigation, focus, and access to work feel coherent.
An organized starting point for your files, applications, and daily work. Designed to feel familiar, flexible, and part of the same desktop experience.
BUILT AROUND YOUR INTENT
For ELIX, intelligence is more than a chatbot sitting over the desktop. The goal is an experience where assistance can make sense of the task in front of you, connect with capable applications, and help you move forward.
Some questions need a simple answer. Others need a tool, a series of edits, or your approval. The experience should feel continuous without making the technology its own destination.
Instead of starting from zero for every interaction, contextual assistance could work from the desktop activity and project information you intentionally make available.
An AI-native app experience can provide actions suited to real work: organizing material, updating a document, or preparing a workspace without unnecessary manual handoffs.
Autonomy should remain understandable. Sensitive operations should respect the user's choices, and meaningful activity should be visible rather than happening mysteriously in the background.
Imagine software that works beautifully for people and also gives intelligent assistants the right tools to work within it. That is the idea behind .elix apps—an AI-native application ecosystem envisioned for ELIX.
Open, browse, create, and manage your work with an interface built for everyday use. AI should enhance the software—not make the interface harder to use.
A .elix app can be designed to expose intentional, permission-controlled tools to AI, so assistance can work with the app’s capabilities rather than relying on fragile screen clicks.
As the platform evolves, different kinds of AI-native applications could give ELIX deeper usefulness for writing, planning, media, research, and creative work.
ELIX is developing its own app experience around useful tools for people and, over time, capable assistants. Explore how AI-native workflows might feel inside familiar applications. These examples are illustrative rather than live autonomous capabilities.
Choose a workspace and see one practical example. No hidden automation—just a look at the intended experience.
You collect notes and ideas. In a future AI-enabled workflow, an assistant could organize a selected group of notes, link related information, or prepare a draft for your review.

The Proactive Engine is ELIX's long-term vision for a more aware desktop. It aims to recognize routines, learn from permitted activity, remember useful preferences, and surface support when it could actually help—not just when you explicitly ask for it.
Instead of rebuilding your workspace each morning, ELIX could recognize your recurring projects, bring relevant work to the surface, and suggest a useful next step.
The most meaningful improvements aren't always dramatic. Often, they are the small moments that interrupt your thinking: searching, organizing, switching context, and starting over.
Gather references, manage assets, and return to an unfinished idea without losing the thread of the project.
Move between notes, documents, and useful context while an AI-native workspace helps keep information organized.
Work across files and tools with assistance that understands the broader objective instead of an isolated command.
Turn frequently repeated steps into guided, understandable assistance that leaves more attention for actual decisions.
WHEN A TASK NEEDS DEEPER THINKING
ELIX runs on Windows and is designed to handle desktop interaction on the device. But some work asks for more than a quick command: it asks for interpretation, planning, and an understanding of several pieces of information at once.
That is where we plan to use the Claude API. Claude would bring cloud-hosted reasoning to chosen tasks, while ELIX and its .elix apps remain responsible for the actions, controls, and experiences on your computer.
It's not about putting a chatbot on your desktop. It's about making the tools you already work with more capable.
Ask for an outcome in natural language. Claude could help interpret the request, identify what's needed, and suggest a practical sequence before anything changes on your device.
With your permission, relevant text or documents could be sent for summarizing, comparison, research synthesis, or writing assistance. Your whole desktop would not need to be shared.
Claude can request the use of defined tools. In the envisioned ELIX integration, permitted actions would be carried out by local services and .elix apps—not by Claude directly operating Windows.
Over time, ELIX's Proactive Engine could recognize when a complex task needs deeper reasoning and ask Claude for assistance, instead of sending every routine event to the cloud.
Imagine asking ELIX to pull together a Monday brief. You choose the notes and calendar information to include. Claude helps connect the important points and drafts a summary. ELIX can then offer to save it in a .elix app after you review it.
On your desktop — select data, manage applications, review permissions, execute approved tools, and store results.
Through the Claude API — interpret your goal, reason about the selected context, and generate a proposal or tool request.
In your control — decide what leaves the device and approve sensitive actions. An API key would be secured outside public website code.
Planned integration — not a currently connected Claude service. ELIX is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic. The Claude API provides model inference; it does not host the ELIX desktop or this website.
Bringing the Home, Dock, Status Bar, and window-navigation experiences into one coherent Windows desktop shell.
Designing an app ecosystem where software can offer useful, intentional tools to intelligent assistants.
Exploring context-aware, learning-oriented assistance that can help without needing to be prompted for every step.
ELIX is an independent project exploring how an operating experience can become more intelligent, personal, and genuinely useful. We're building toward that future one interaction at a time.
